German Village
Wilkommen
The German Canadian Association of Brantford is very proud of our history as one of the original International Villages 38 years ago, and we are looking forward to another exciting Villages Festival. We congratulate the International Villages Committee on their success over the years and their continued dedication to supporting our ethnic communities and promoting our great City of Brantford.
We continue our authentic German entertainment which will feature nightly our own Sunshine Girls, Little Miss Sunshine Girls and our Sonnenhof Dancers. Returning to our Village are The Concordia Club Enzian Schuhplattler and the Schwabenklub Dancers. Between shows, we will provide music entertainment for dancing, singalongs, or just relaxing. We welcome you to come and enjoy our hospitality, food and entertainment as you celebrate the “World at Your Doorstep.”
The German Club was established in 1953 by 70 founding members who chose Canada as their new homeland. They brought with them a multitude of skills such as carpentry, tool and die making and brick laying. Our beautiful building, Sonnenhof, featuring Southern German architecture, was built in 1962/1963.
Our current membership consists of approximately 140 families from Brantford and the surrounding area. New members are always welcome; German heritage is not a prerequisite for membership. Please check out our website www.sonnenhof.ca for club information, as well as information for booking our site for weddings, parties (large and small), meetings, presentations, or catering options.
Following the Villages, we will be preparing for our annual Oktoberfest which will be on Saturday, October 1st, 2011. We invite you to come to this traditional German celebration featuring music, food, fun and of course, “Gemütlichkeit”. We will celebrate the holiday season with a Christmas Carol Night featuring the Hamilton Germania Club choir, a Children’s Christmas Party and New Year’s Eve Gala. Spring will feature a Mardi Gras Maskenball and then our official celebration of Spring, Bock Beer Festival in May. Our club is home to dart, bowling and skate teams, and we are the proud sponsors of the Sonnenhof Falcons, a youth soccer team in the under-nine inter-city soccer league. Our social events are open to everyone, so please watch for our advertisements in the newspaper and around town. We would love to have you join us!
Thank you for your continued support of Brantford’s International Villages.
Alles Gute,
